2007

24/08/2007 : Scarce Silver Y was trapped on Cannock Chase. It was last recorded in 1955 and before that pre 1908. Golden-rod Brindle, Great Brocade and numerous Anomalous were trapped too.

22/08/2007 : Ocnerostoma fresei was added to the VC39 list from Katyn Memorial on Cannock Chase. An immigration of Great Brocades took place with records from a number of sites across the county.

09/07/2007 : Scarlet Tiger found at Kinver Edge - a new county record.

15/06/2007 : a Coronet was recorded in Walsall; the 2nd county record - the first being in 1911!!

10/06/2007 : Donacaula mucronellus recorded at Broad Heath - second record for VC39.

06/05/2007 : Acleris hastiana - 7th VC39 record - was found in a Harborne garden.

16/04/2007 : A Lime Hawk-moth in Little Stoke - the earliest on record.

15/04/2007 : a second over-wintering Humming-bird Hawk-moth; this time in Wednesbury.

15/03/2007 : the first record of over-wintering Humming-bird Hawk-moth - one was seen on daffodils in Burslem.

25/12/2006 : Grey Shoulder-knot at Broad Heath - a nice Xmas Day tick.

16/9/2006 : 8 Scarce Bordered Straw caught at Bishops Wood plus 2 Pearly Underwings, a Barred Sallow and an Orange Sallow.

15/09/2006 : Pinion-streaked Snout caught at Betley with Scarce Bordered Straw.

05/09/2006 : Scarce Bordered Straw seen at Seighford. Also the tenanted mines of Chrysoesthia drurella on Orache/Goosefoot which, if confirmed, will be a new county record.

31/08/2006 : Vine's Rustic caught at Penn. Second record for VC39.

26/08/2006 : Palpita vitrealis at Broad Heath - 2nd county record; the first being in 1997.

06/08/2006 : Twin-spotted Wainscot added to the county list from Broad Heath (SJ82).

29/07/2006 : Small Mottled Willow trapped at Betley and Broad Heath - 2nd and 3rd VC records.

22/07/2006 : Chocolate-tip at Keele University - most northerly record in VC39 to date.

18/07/2006 : A Small Scallop was trapped at Broad Heath.

16/07/2006 : Brown-veined Wainscot at Broad Heath.

13/07/2006 : Satin Beauty recorded in a Stafford garden.

12/07/2006 : Satin Beauty recorded in Harborne.

10/07/2006 : an incredible 9 Pine Hawk-moths were recorded on Hednesford Hills - the first for the county was only recorded there last year!

09/07/2006 : Silky Wainscot added to Staffordshire from Betley (SJ74).

06/07/2006 : the pyralid Phlyctaenia pelucidalis was caught at Broad Heath, near Eccleshall. This is a first for VC39.

03/07/2006 : A second VC record of Beautiful Hook-tip was trapped at Broad Heath, near Eccleshall.

01/07/2006 : Over 60 Welsh Clearwings have now been found on Cannock Chase. This is amazing considering that adults were last seen in the 1920s. In addition, Red-tipped Clearwing has also been found, again, last recorded in 1949 and White-barred Clearwing, last recorded on the Chase in 1920.

26/06/2006 : the plume moth Capperia britanniodactyla caught in a West Bromwich garden. First record since 1950!

24/06/2006 : Beautiful Hook-tip added to Staffordshire list - 5 caught at Arley Arboretum. Also caught were Blomer's Rivulet, Scorched Carpet and Blotched Emerald.

17/06/2006 : a staggering 28 Currant Clearwings caught using a pheramone lure in a Penn garden. Also trapped Brindled White-spot, Treble Brown-spot and Sycamore.

13/06/2006 : Silvery Arches trapped on Cannock Chase; last record there was in 1985.

00/06/2006 : Numerous sightings of Hummingbird Hawk-moth and Bordered Straw.

09/06/2006 : Small Waved Umber added to the VC list from Bishops Wood. Also caught: 6 Red-necked Footman (only six VC records to date!) and 20 Marbled White Spots.

03-06-2006 : Chocolate-tip at Broad Heath. Second SJ82 record. This square is as far north as it has been recorded in the county.

31-05-2006 : Burnet Companion at Bateswood. First record for North Staffs for over 50 years.

27-05-2006: Grapholita lunulana Sneyd Hill Park; new VC39 record.

05-05-2006 : invasion of Diamond-back moths with 29 at Baggeridge CP

30-04-2006 : Acanthopsyche atra added to the VC list at Knotbury from cases attached to a fencepost. Also, Heath Rustic larvae were found at Goldsitch Moss and at Knotbury and Philedonides lacunana at Goldsitch. No Emperors were found there but a couple were found at Marshes Hill Common - a new site.

01-01-2006 : Winter Moth on window at Stone on the stroke of midnight. Definitely the first moth of the year!

2005

25-10-2005 : A Humming-bird Hawk-moth was seen in a Penn garden - no doubt blown in on the southerly airstream.

20-10-2005 : A Large Wainscot was caught at Carverswall. This is the 10th VC record, the last being in 1999 at Belvide Reservoir.

25-09-2005 : A Brindled Ochre was caught at Bradnop. This is a rare species restricted to the NE of the county.

10-09-2005 : A Delicate was caught in a Walsall garden. This is the 3rd county record.

03-09-2005 : Amblyptilia acanthadactyla, one found dead inside a house near Newcastle. Apart from 1 in Harborne in 2004 and 2 in Alsager (just outside VC39), the last was in 1956.

08-09-2005 : Pinion-streaked Snout, Baggeridge CP. First for the site.

07-09-2005 : Convolvulus Hawk-moth, Baggeridge CP. This is the 13th county record and the 3rd since 2000.

13-08-2005 : Triple-spotted Pug was trapped at Great Row, Apedale. This is only the 3rd county record.

09-08-2005 : Black Arches at Baggeridge CP.

14-07-2005 : Dingy Footman at Baggeridge CP. Third county record.

13-07-2005 : Leopard Moth at Bradnop. First record for SK05.

09-07-2005 : Marbled White Spot at Burnt Wood. First record for this site.

08-07-2005 : Leopard Moth at Little Stoke, Stone and Clouded Brindle at Baggeridge CP (3rd post 2000).

02-07-2005 : Coleophora peribenanderi, Pseudatemelia josephinae, Consall CP. First county records.

01-07-2005 : Pine Hawk-moth on Hednesford Hills - a county first.

01-07-2005 : Varied Coronet at Little Stoke, Stone. First record for SJ93.
